Name: Julia Skinner
Age: 31
Gender: Female
Race: Cat-People
Sexual Orientation Heterosexual
House: None - Professor
Classes: None – Professor
Occupation: Professor of Magical Theories I & II
Likes: Julia likes warm, sunny days when she can be outside without responsibility, when she can run through the trees or lounge under a tree. She enjoys the odd prank, with her power (which, admittedly, is great for practical jokes) or by more practical means, though never with the intent to harm. She loves the feel of freshly washed linens and the taste of warm milk.
Dislikes: Julia cannot stand unfounded disrespect. Often she herself has been the victim of disrespect, due to her appearance and short stature, and it often greatly upsets or enrages her when she witnesses it. While she loves a good joke, she also dislikes bullies, and will often step in if she sees another in trouble.
Strengths: Julia is very confident and courageous. She has no qualms about stepping into a fight – even if she’s severely outnumbered or outclassed. This isn’t to say she goes looking for scraps, but she won’t hesitate to break one up – especially if someone is being ganged up upon. She is fairly observant, allowing for her to note difficult students or those who may be in trouble. The more she knows a person, the better her observational skills are.
Weaknesses: Julia is not known for her patience. This often leads to her losing her temper or losing interest in things all together. She can also be quite stubborn and set in her ways; once she’s made up her mind, there’s not much that can be done – without irrefutable proof – to make her change it.
Fears: She absolutely cannot stand heights. As a child she climbed a tree and fell out, resulting in a broken arm and a lifetime fear of anything higher than five feet. Climbing stairs makes her nervous, but as long as she keeps her focus upwards she generally has no issues.
Secret: Her power is much more in depth than she lets on. She treats the power as a joke, but she actually has very few limits to it.
Description: Julia has two forms, her true, cat form and her humanoid form. She can switch between either form at will, though she prefers to do so in private - mostly because her clothing does not fit appropriately across both forms.
In her cat form, Julia stands at two feet, seven inches. She does not often wear this form around her students - mostly because she's found that teenagers have a hard time respecting a cat that is as tall as a toddler. However, outside of class - mostly in the staff areas, such as her room - she prefers to be in her cat form. Her soft fur is all white and she has brown, expressive eyes. Her tail is about a foot long itself, and often has a ribbon tied around the end of it. She prefers skirts and blouses to pants, and she’s generally seen walking barefoot on her paws.
In her humanoid form, Julia stands at 5'0 even, which is still fairly short - though not nearly as short (or adorable) as her cat form. Her ears still remain at the top of her head, but in place of fur she has white-shoulder length hair and pale skin. She still has her tail, which doubles in length to pair with her height. Like in her cat form, her tail will often have a ribbon tied to it - it is one of the few articles of clothing that fits no matter which form she is in. As in her cat form, she prefers skirts and blouses, though she has been known to wear the odd dress on occasion. However, unlike in her cat form, she will wear tights under the skirts - the lack of fur makes her chilly sometimes. She doesn't go barefoot, either - even she recognizes that it would be weird.
Power(s): Her power allows her to cause an individual to no longer be able to do something. Originally, when she came into this power, she was able to mildly discomfort someone by taking away a mediocre life skill – such as the inability to use spoons or tie their shoes – for a limited amount of time. As she grew older, her power grew. Now, she is able to affect the use of language or even power usage – though the more difficult the skill to affect, the shorter the time affected. She still acts as if the power can only be used mediocrely – using it to play harmless pranks on unwitting coworkers and students. However, if there is a need, she will shed the jocular front to use her powers to their full extent.
Belongings: She has a picture of her mother and father kept in her rooms, as well as a well-worn stuffed doll from when she was a child.
Personality: Julia is loud and vivacious. She has a penchant for jokes and pranks, which gives her a mischievous air. It often appears that she is incapable of being serious – even when lecturing or breaking up a fight. Then again, it’s hard to take a less-than-three-feet-tall cat-woman seriously when she’s scolding you. She enjoys getting her students to interact and enjoy learning – because she knows her subject matter isn’t quite as interesting as some of the others. That doesn’t mean she has patience for slackers or those who would try to derail the conversation to avoid actual learning.
She doesn’t have much of a temper, but she does have a vindictive streak a mile long. She will remember that one thing you did to her six months ago and she will get you back when you least expect it – usually creatively and with great gusto. Sometimes she uses her power, but just as often she will use everyday objects to enact her revenge.
History: Julia is the youngest girl among three boys. She learned to roughhouse and give as good as she got. She was also the only one of her siblings to develop any kind of magical powers, and so she was sent away to learn how to harness it. It was a hard trip, being away from home and surrounded by people who often found her form to appear ridiculous. Then again, she was always much shorter than the rest of her class, due to her nature.
It wouldn’t be until sixteen that she was able to change forms between cat and humanoid, but by then she had gotten used to the teasing – and had learned to give as good as she got. She was branded the class troublemaker (even though she totally didn’t start it). At eighteen she graduated from her school – not top of her class, but with honors.
She returned home, unsure of what to do with herself now that she had some grasp on her magical talents. She began going to school again, to try to find a calling. It wouldn’t be until she was nineteen that Julia would decide she wanted to teach others. The idea of helping shape students – hopefully better than her teachers, who had turned a blind eye to her bullies – was very appealing to her.
It took six more years to become certified to teach magical students – on top of learning the material she wanted to teach, she also had to learn how to contain students (or other malcontents) that may be using their powers in unsanctioned ways. Finding a job was difficult – for some, it was about her race, and for others, it was her lack of experience. However, she found a home at the Magic Mist Academy, working with another professor to teach magical theory.
Two years ago, her friend and mentor passed away suddenly, and she became the sole professor of magical theory.
Other: Nope!
