♫As of late, it seems my audience has been lacking.♫
♫Seasons change me, but they won’t change my core!♫
Name:
Maelin.
♫I count the days that pass me by♫
Age:
Ageless.
♫Born and bred the masters of ourselves.♫
Gender:
Female.
♫Never has the blood in my veins flowed so fiercely♫
Race:
Goddess.
♫Would she hold me, if she knew my shame?♫
Sexual Orientation:
Sure, let’s go with all of them.
♫My purpose is so clear!♫
Occupation:
Professor of Advanced Spell-Casting.
♫I wake up every evening with a big smile on my face.♫
Likes:
• Being worshiped.
• Proper respect.
• Freedom of choice.
• The students at the academy.
♫When you see my face, I hope it gives you hell!♫
Dislikes:
• The full moon.
• Being forgotten or ignored.
• The headmaster when he’s being a pompous know-it-all.
• Injustice.
♫When all you got to keep is strong.♫
Strengths:
• Magic. It is kinda her domain as a deific being.
• More magic. It is about the only thing she bothers with.
• Nearly boundless knowledge. She’s been around forever (literally) and watched over the world for a long time as a god.
• Open-mindedness.
• Kindness.
♫When we live fragile lives.♫
Weaknesses:
• The light of a full moon. That’s about it. She’s a goddess, what’d you expect?
• She’s also arrogant and does not like asking for help, but then, she rarely needs it.
♫I see the fear growing in their lost eyes!♫
Fears:
Maelin’s only real fear is never regaining godhood back, but she’s moving past that.
♫I’ll keep you, my dirty little secret.♫
Secret:
Maelin losses her power under the light of a full moon.
♫He’s a stranger to some and a vision to none.♫
Description:
Maelin’s true form is small, like a fairy; she is a mere three feet tall. Dark wings, seemingly made of energy or shadows, grow from her back. Long, straight, dark grey hair falls from her head, kept from her blue eyes by a headband. When struck by the light of a full moon, this is the form the goddess takes. She dislikes how weak it makes her seem. She appears to be weak and fragile, almost as if a loud whisper could shatter her. Needless to say, she never willingly shows this form to others; the only being alive to have seen it, and recognize it as her, is the headmaster of the academy.
Her preferred form is that of an old lady with fair skin and grey hair. She stands at 5’5” and has a slight build. Her eyes remain the same shade of blue as in her true form. She wears a large amount of jewelry, finding it a convenient storage for magic (a secret she more than willingly shares with her students). It is in this form that Maelin teaches in. Of course, she can adopt other forms if she desires with spells, but she favors this one.
♫Do you believe in the fantasy?♫
Power(s):
As a goddess of magic, Maelin is a true master of all type of spells, able to cast most without any effort, incantation, or motion.
♫It’s time to lock-and-load♫
Belongings:
Magical jewelry and gems, which she enchanted herself.
♫This who I am really inside.♫
Personality:
Maelin, being a goddess, has a bit of a superiority complex. Or maybe not, because she actually is superior to most people. Either way, she knows she’s ‘hot stuff’ and acts accordingly. She treats others with the respect they deserve and expects to be treated the same; of course, she deserves the utmost respect even without considering the fact that she’s a goddess. She can be very understanding of the problems of others and will offer advice to those in need, but dislikes when people do not solve their own problems. There are times, however, when she realizes that outside influence is required (for example, bullies often target those that cannot protect themselves).
She is not shy, in fact being the center of attention is easy for her – being a goddess, her influence was dependent on the number of followers she had. Still, though, she prefers one-on-one meetings to group gatherings and can often be found tutoring students, even those not in her class, at all hours if she does not have a prior engagement. She tries to approachable and likable, but never weak. She values the academy and its students and would protect them above all else, possibly even going so far as to give her life for them. Thankfully that has yet to be tested, though.
When dealing with school rules, Maelin often takes on a laissez-faire attitude as long as nobody is hurting another. The students are old enough to make their own decisions and it is difficult to grow without mistakes. If she catches a student out after curfew, she lets them know how lucky it was that it was not someone else and tells them not to miss curfew again; she’s even nice enough to help them get back to their dorm without getting into trouble. When students sneak off of school grounds, she lets them. It is tragic when they never come back, but it is their decision to make; she’s even left spots in the walls where they can come and go as they please, although she makes sure that these spots are heavily warded by divinations to alert her to any unwanted intruders.
♫Lie awake in bed at night and think about your life♫
History:
For a long time, Maelin reigned as a goddess. Of course, all deities are known under different names to different cultures and some are lost over time. Maelin’s name was before the rise of the Greeks and the other gods never brought her name back to the mortals. Assuming a human form, she walked the mortal realm for a time, trying to cultivate her worship again, but to no avail. Eventually, she abandoned her attempt to rekindle her following, instead living as a simple mortal. She trained many in the use of magic, granting them a slight fraction of her power while they lived, letting them grow it until their death, at which point it would return to her all the greater. Many people were part of this cycle, some of the most well-known being Circe, Medea, Baba Yaga, Merlin, and Morgan Le Fay. Eventually, Maelin hopes that this power will be enough to reclaim her place as a goddess with numerous worships.
In relatively recent times, Maelin met a man with a vision to bring knowledge and safety to those in need of it; a chance to grow the young into good people. It was a noble cause, but she saw it more as a large gathering of magical beings, ripe for training. Becoming one of the first professors at the Magic Mist Academy, the goddess began imprinting upon the students, letting them grow her magical power over time. Over the years, though, she has become more interested in helping the young grow rather than reclaiming her position. She is responsible for most of the magical protections and wards around the academy.
♫No secret deceptions for these would stare us down.♫
Other:
Maelin has taught several subjects before and has the knowledge necessary to teach any of them. She favors the magic classes for obvious reasons. She offers assistance to any student in any subject if they ask.
